More about the Role
The Veterinary Care Coordinator provides an exceptional experience to our clients during every interaction. In addition to continually engaging the client, the employee performs practice administrative tasks such as record maintenance and appointment tracking. The employee manages practice reception (visitor and telephone), maintenance of veterinary medical records, accounts maintenance, cash processing, data entry, word processing and mail services. The employee applies practical knowledge of practice processes and services, the basic rules and regulations governing visitors and animal patient treatment, and veterinary record requirements and terminology to ensure every patient is well-cared for and every client has an exceptional experience. The employee assists the veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in-house laboratory work, educates clients regarding veterinary care and procedures. Previous customer service experience is required. The ideal candidate is able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings (5:30-6:30pm) and weekends (in the future). There is potential to learn more and move into a vet tech assistant position with scholarship opportunities for RVT online school.

Essential Responsibilities
- Welcomes clients and patients to the practice with a warm and friendly demeanor and ensures an excellent experience during the practice visit. Demonstrate warmth, courtesy and professionalism in all interactions with clients; exercise compassion and care in all interactions with patients.
- Answers incoming telephone calls applying proper telephone etiquette.
- Leads practice opening and closing procedures per Practice Manager instructions and practice procedures.
- Ensures all public areas are clean and presentable for patients; cleans and straightens areas including the front desk, reception area, waiting area, office, public bathroom(s) and exam rooms.
- Processes cash, checks, charge card payments and credit account payments.
- Schedules appointments for the clinic adhering to practice and Doctor preferences and ensure appropriate workflow.
- Assists in the updating of client/patient files, as needed.
- Prepares and sends client correspondence.
- Sends reminder notices to clients for periodic notifications; conducts re-calls to clients on a timely basis from a call back list.
- Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and other tasks as needed.
- Assist veterinarians in outpatient exams by taking histories, vital signs, and weights, as well as providing client education.
- Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in-hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside laboratories.
- Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
- Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
- Administer and monitor medications, vaccines, and treatments at the discretion of the veterinarian.
- Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment, and lab areas; restock exam rooms with supplies. Assist other team members to keep the public areas of the practice clean; clean and maintain all medical equipment.
- Communicates with veterinarians and practice team members including client discussions, patient plans, client concerns, etc.
- Any other duties as assigned.
Requirements/Qualifications
- Ability to work evenings and weekends as required
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous veterinary experience preferred
- Client satisfaction references preferred
- Practices OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE

About Veterinary Hospital at the Lake
Veterinary Hospital at the Lake provides full-service small animal care to Sherrills Ford, NC and the surrouding communities.
We are also home to the region’s only referral specialty center for small animal reproduction. Our board-certified specialists in reproduction, called theriogenologists, partner with our breeder clients and their primary care veterinarians to provide their pets with expertise and compassionate care in male and female reproduction and neonatology.
Position Purpose:
Our unique practice has a great opportunity offering the full complement of theriogenology services regionally, in addition to general medicine & surgery locally.
Our professional team consists of two boarded theriogenologist and one part-time general practicing associate. We are excited to add another theriogenologist to our team!
Our ideal candidate is skilled in SA general medicine and surgery and has a passion and appreciation for theriogenology. Board-certification and experience in theriogenology are also desired. What is required is a willingness to embrace the world of purpose-bred dogs. Mentorship and on-the-job training will be provided. Efforts at board certification will be supported. Our specialty work allows our general practice access to state-of-the-art equipment often found only in referral hospitals.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Examine and treat companion animals to detect and determine the nature of disease or injuries.
- Operate diagnostic equipment and collect diagnostic samples as well as interpret results.
- Advise pet owners on preventative care and treatment options.
- Perform surgery and prescribe medication as needed.
- Provide counsel around pet end of life care.
- Maintain patients’ medical records.
- Ensures compliance with veterinary ethics and relevant statues, policies, and procedures.
Requirements/Qualifications:
- Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from an accredited AVMA institution.
- Appropriate state licensure.
- Eligibility to obtain DEA/BNDD.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Demonstrates professional and courteous presentation consistently with staff and clients.
- Ability to lift patients and carry equipment up to 25 pounds; ability to lift patients or carry equipment over 25 pounds with assistance.
